"BURSTED" Single Hop Series
Starting Friday, April 21st starting at 6pm
We'll have 6 of this series all on tap on the patio...
Citra, Simcoe, Mosaic, Cascade, Centenniel and Chinook

"Bursted" Single Hop Series - which will be IPAs hopped with a single hop varietal. Traditionally beers are bittered by adding relatively small amounts of hop at the beginning of the boil - this results in the firm bitterness that IPA fiends have come to love. A somewhat newer approach often referred to as "bursting" employs the technique of adding huge amounts of hops very late in the boil, or even after the kettle has been turned off. The large volume gives ample bitterness - and the added bonus of MASSIVE flavor components. This series is all about exploring what each hop adds to both the bitterness and the flavor of the beer when employed only in late additions with no early additions. The malt bill will remain consistent throughout the series, and we promise you.. it won't get in the way.

BAGBY BEERS ON THE PATIO


STARTING FRIDAY, APRIL 7TH AT 6PM
On the patio...
Grief Counselor – 6.1% American Strong Pale Ale.
 Not quite enough alcohol to be an IPA but plenty of hops.
Amitié – 6.9% Belgian-style Hoppy Blonde
The goal with this beer was to make a beer that had a strong hop character without just being an American IPA that was fermented with Belgian yeast.  The beer is not overwhelmingly bitter or hugely aromatic.  It has a hop character that can be described as both European as well as American.  Its yeast’s character comes through as well as its light colored bright malt.  It reminds us of several beers that we’ve had while visiting our friends in Belgium.  The beer’s name translates to “friendship” as it reminded us of our friends from overseas
Alt in The Family – 5.3% German-style Altbier
Crisp beer with a firm bitterness and a solid malt character.  Very easy drinking.
Sweet Ride – 4.6% Bohemian-style Pilsner
It is back!  Get some now!
Zombie Gate – 10.0% Imperial Stout.
A big rich stout without the extremely heavy, sweet, or thick body.  Hints of chocolate, roast, hops, and dark fruit combine in this big guy.

Inside we'll also have...
Fancy Pants – 4.0% German-style Schwarzbier
Black in color with a slight red hue.  Very clean dark malt flavors with a touch of roast malt character.  Soft and light bodied.
Golden Girl – 8.4% Belgian-style golden

So our new Agent of Change for February is ARTS, A Reason to Survive.  This is a favorite because they've been around for awhile but were really coming into their own and growing around when BLAH started and have really exploded into a huge and true force of change. Their primary goal is to help under-served youth— help them get through school, help them find themselves and their dreams, help them get into college or find a job— all via creative endeavors. They want these kids to find meaning, motivation and drive (aka a reason to survive). It's the whole teaching you to fish thing as opposed to just feeding you fish.

They accomplish this goal in a myriad of ways: from informal art experiences to professional skill building, through mentorships, apprenticeships, and a giant array of classes in music, studio art, building, design, writing, photography and more. They have a pretty sizable complex in National City that is truly super cool but they also reach out to schools, and neighborhood rec centers and groups and working-artists studios for the kids who cannot come to the Center.

They believe Art is the most powerful force of change.

This organization was started by this awesome guy named Matt D'Arrigo in 2001 after he lost his Mom to cancer. Art and music had really gotten him through it and he thought that if it worked for him, it could work for others. It was really small to start with— like really. And now? I don't know the numbers of the kids they reach but it's crazy and in the thousands. This documentary, about one of the ARTS students, Innocente, won the Academy Award for Short Documentary— and if you haven't seen it you should, it's online and it will make you sob and but also believe:

Tiger!Tiger! and Shaper Studios are hosting a Sunday afternoon BBQ to celebrate the 5 Year Anniversary of Take Back the Alley by inviting the community at large to enjoy + hang out at the alley intervention designed by Pauli Faktor and implemented by volunteers. The event will also include a great music lineup:

2pm Bliah Music (at Shaper Studios)
